What qualifications, skills and experience required the Politician’s Assistant to be successful in their role?
The Politician’s Assistant will provide high-level administrative and research support to project leads. The Politician’s Assistant will, primarily, be responsible for scheduling, preparing for daily meetings and events, creating briefing materials, taking notes, and drafting agendas, among other administrative tasks. The Politician’s Assistant also will conduct online research, prepare background memos, and help manage external relationships and provide support to partners. The Politician’s Assistant will report directly to the project leads.
The Politician’s Assistant Responsibilities:
- Manage and coordinate project leads’ schedules; schedule internal and external meetings and events; track meeting requests; adjust and prioritize last-minute changes
- Manage meeting logistics, such as attendees, audio visual (AV), and catering
- Prepare materials for meetings and events
- Take notes at meetings and prepare lists of follow-up tasks
- Track key contacts and relationships and maintain up-to-date contact lists
- Draft correspondence and other materials
- Conduct online research and write background memos
- Format, proofread, and fact check research, reports, and other materials
- Set up and maintain file systems, document sharing, to do lists, and work stream trackers
The Politician’s Assistant Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
- Experience providing project or administrative support
- Strong organizational and administrative skills
- Self-motivation and the ability to work independently on projects, from conception to completion
- Ability to work under pressure at times
- Ability to use sound judgment and discretion in working with confidential and/or sensitive information
- Strong critical thinking, problem solving, research, and decision-making skills
- Strong written and communications skills
- Professionalism, tact, and diplomacy in interactions with senior professionals and government officials
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in a demanding and fast-paced environment
- Ability to multitask and respond effectively to changing workloads and priorities
- Ability to solve problems and creatively leverage resources to arrive at a resolution listening ability, and a collaborative orientation
