Civil Engineer Virtual Assistant

[embed]https://thompson-rich1986.wistia.com/medias/trpl2nux1t[/embed]The Civil Engineer Virtual Assistant will work on a variety of projects that involve construction and maintenance, contract administration, permitting and other challenging areas of civil engineering in a digital way. The Civil Engineer Virtual Assistant projects will engage in both independent and collaborative team situations while employed in both office and field working environments. The Civil Engineer Virtual Assistant will work directly under the supervision of a professional engineer. The Civil Engineer Virtual Assistant participate in or prepare plans and specifications for the design, construction, and maintenance/operation of a variety of public and private works facilities and projects.

Civil Engineer Virtual Assistant Responsibilities:

• Report to chief engineer.
• Research project design requirements and perform routine calculations.
• Conduct plan checks to ensure contractor and/or enforce compliance with various environmental and regulatory standards.
• Prepare time and material cost estimates, especially as related to existing or anticipated project budgets.
• May delegate routine research, design, and drafting tasks to technical staff.
• Review completed work and assist in identifying solutions for solving routine problems.
• Research publications and industry information sources as needed.
• Evaluate signal sight distance, signage and striping.
• Review and update traffic signals improvement standards

Civil Engineer Virtual Assistant Requirements:

• A Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental engineering or a closely related field.
• Basic methods, materials, and techniques used in the design, construction, and maintenance/operation.
• Strong knowledge in principles and practices of work safety.
• Ability to perform professional engineering computations and learn to check, design, and prepare engineering plans, studies, profiles, and maps.
• Solid knowledge or experience of making engineering decisions.
• Strong experience of reviewing and/or utilizing engineering manuals/standards.
• Experience reading contract plans and specifications.
